The accident happened on Loop 7 in Athens. A 37-year-old male resident of the area was driving a truck east on the road when he apparently allowed his vehicle to cross into the path of oncoming traffic. The truck ran head-on into a car driven by a 77-year-old man from Kemp. The impact was devastating to both drivers. No other people were reported to have been involved in the collision.
The Athens man was taken to a hospital in Tyler for treatment of his injuries. The doctors were unable to save his life, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:22 p.m. His body was removed to an Athens funeral home for interment. The man from Kemp was also taken to the Tyler hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries. The police report did not speculate as to why the Athens man may have crossed the center line as the investigation was still in the preliminary stages at the time.
People who have been hurt by a car crash in the state of Texas may choose to appeal to the courts to help compel the people responsible for the wreck to pay their fair share of the damages. An attorney may be consulted about providing legal representation for those who wish to develop a personal injury lawsuit, file it properly, notify the defendant or defendants and then bring the case to trial if necessary. It is possible that, when presented with a strong case, the defendant may choose to settle out of court.
