Students critically injured after head-on collision
On Nov. 30, five Texas A&M students were severely injured in a head-on crash.
The car accident happened along State Highway 105 in Montgomery County at about 8:30 p.m. while the students were all in a red Hyundai going westbound. When the driver of a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction crossed the centerline near Goode City Road, the students were struck head-on.
According to reports, the student who was driving before the crash had attempted to move out of the truck’s way, but he was unable to avoid the collision. The impact of the crash caused extensive damage to both vehicles, and emergency responders had to use the Jaws of Life to free two of the students from their car. Police did not immediately press charges against the pickup truck driver after the accident. Authorities were forced to shut down the highway in order to launch an investigation.
Two of the students were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital via helicopter. The 22-year-old and 24-year-old victims were listed in critical condition. By the following day, the driver of the Hyundai was listed in stable condition. No information was available about the other two students involved in the wreck.
