What Can Cause Head-On Collisions?

Head-on collisions occur when the front of one vehicle collides either head-on or at an angle with the front end of another vehicle. Front-end accidents result in some of the most serious accidents causing serious and often deadly injuries. If you suffer injuries or lose a loved one in a head-on crash, speak with an Austin car accident attorney as soon as possible.

Common Causes of Head-On Collisions

  1. Speeding. When two cars are involved in a head-on collision, then chances are at least one or both cars were speeding. This is because if that was not the case, then at least one of the drivers or both would have been able to maneuver their cars to avoid the head-on collision. This is not to say one could avoid a car accident if they are not speeding, but a speeding car causes more serious accidents and injuries than one not speeding.
  2. The Curvature of the Road. Although head-on collisions can occur on any road or anywhere, they are most common on rural roads compared to the center of a city because rural roads tend to have more curves, hills, and limited visibility.
  3. Driving On The Wrong Side of the Road. One of the most common causes of head-on collisions is drivers driving on the wrong side of the road. There are several reasons why drivers end up driving on the wrong side of the road, and these include the following:

  1. Drunk driving
  2. Distracted driving
  3. Drowsy driving
  4. Attempting to cross over the median line into the direction of opposite traffic to pass a slow-moving vehicle without looking to see if any vehicles are approaching from the opposite direction
  5. Swerving into other lanes to avoid hitting animals or potholes
  6. Poorly marked exit ramps and roads
  7. Inclement weather
